Amanda is a multi-award-winning artist working from the Gold Coast. She is a qualified Graphic and Web designer, which gives her a love of experimentation, bold colours, and working in all mediums. She particularly loves oils and portraiture. She focuses on water and the interaction of light and form when immersed in a natural environment. While exploring the interaction and connection between water, light, and form, the quest for refuge, quietness, and escapism features heavily. These paintings explore the lone swimmer and a few minutes of introspection. Predominantly a figurative painter, Amanda is on a personal quest to paint light. Using heavily layered, impasto knife-work, the paintings treat oil paint as a physical extension of the landscape itself. The thick sculpted paint mimics the geological weight of rocks, the density of wet sandbanks and the heavy fluid mass of water. Amid these structural forms sit the swimmers – rendered as delicate realistic silhouettes, caught in moments of suspension, wading through riptides or floating in silent rock pools. These works mimic the way memories of summer shift: moving fluidly between the vastness of the horizon and the fragments of a single afternoon.
